Abstracts: “Dharoi dam” is situated in Sabarmati basin at Mahesana District of Gujarat. It is an earthen & masonry dam. The construction of dharoi dam was started in year 1973, and at that time there were no Indian standard codes for construction of such earthen dams. Hence there is severe problems of seepage through earthen dam body due to absence of adequate filter provision. Also, silting problem is being observed in the upstream of the dam, due to that the reservoir capacity reduces. Another major problem of the bed erosion is being noticed in the downstream of the dam. A new cross section of dam is being designed as per IS 8826:1978 (Guidelines for design of large earth dams and rockfill dam), IS 9429:1999 (drainage system for earth and rockfill dam) and various stability checks for the dam section are carried out giving the most stable design of the dam with the solution of problem of seepage by designing appropriate drainage filter. For protection of downstream bed erosion special concrete blocks are designed. In this study area for minimizing the silting problem mechanical dredging by bucket ladder and mechanical agitator can be utilized.
