Abstracts: Shear wall is a structural element used to resist horizontal forces parallel to the plane of the wall. Shear wall has highly in plane stiffness and strength which can be used to simultaneously resist large horizontal loads and support gravity loads. Shear Walls are specially designed structural walls include in the buildings to resist horizontal forces that are induces in the plane of the wall due to wind, earthquake and other forces. They are mainly flexural members and usually provided in high rise buildings to avoid the total collapse of the high rise buildings under seismic forces. ETABS is a special-purpose computer program developed specifically for building structures. It provides the Structural Engineer with all the tools necessary to create, modify, analyze, design, and optimize building models. These features are fully integrated in a single, Windows-based, graphical user interface that is unmatched in terms of ease-of-use, productivity, and capability. In this project, study of 10 storeys building in all zones are presented with some investigation which is analyzed by changing various location of shear wall for determining parameters like storey drift, storey shear and displacement is done by using standard package ETAB. The objective of study is to find optimum location of shear wall for better behaviouer of building under seismic response for different zones. Also the impact of Wall/Column cost on total cost of structure will be studied by estimating the steel and concrete quantity of each model under each zone. Based on this, the best structural system suitable for different zones will be found.
